We invite you to our 2nd annual Professional Development Workshop, "From Coordination to Collaboration: Rethinking Human-AI Teamwork Across Levels of Organizing" (Session #20890) within the AOM CTO Division's program.

Much of the existing research on human-AI collaboration centers the individual: how a single decision-maker comes to use, trust, or override AI systems. Yet AI is being woven into team contexts, where outcomes hinge on coordination practices between workers and their tools. This PDW explores the contours of this interaction, drawing on the latest findings from research happening on the ground.

We bring together an interdisciplinary set of scholars from Communication, Information Systems, Organizational Behavior, Team Science, and Psychology to accentuate coordination as a core organizational challenge unfolding in new forms. The format will feature a series of lightning talks by panelists, followed by an interactive plenary discussion.

We take up research questions such as: How are humans and AI coordinating roles and responsibilities? What does shared cognition look like? How do teams adapt when AI capabilities evolve quickly, alongside the routines and norms in our workplaces?

Panelists feature Susan Simkins (formerly Mohammed), Pennsylvania State U; Lionel Robert, U of Michigan; Marlon Twyman, U of Southern California; and Lindsay Larson, Carnegie Mellon U.

Organized by Ignacio Cruz (Northwestern U), Bei Yan (Stevens Institute of Technology), and Li Lu (U of Delaware).

    Program Details:

    Saturday, August 1, 2026, 10:15 AM–12:15 PM

Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, Level 4, Franklin 4
