Are you attending the Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management in 2025?

Join our PDW "All Fun and Games? The Entertainment Industry in Organization Research" (CTO, TIM, STR) exploring how the entertainment industry, from books, movies, music to video-games, provides fertile ground for advancing and testing management and organization theory!

    Workshop Overview

Research using the entertainment industry as an empirical setting has tripled in leading journals between 2015 and 2023, addressing questions on winner-takes-all dynamics, innovation, digital platforms, and hybrid collaboration. Yet, unique challenges such as data access and content complexity have limited wider adoption.

This PDW brings together scholars who study film, music, and gaming to:

    • Highlight opportunities and barriers to research in this field
    • Share insights from using text, image, and audio data
    • Create a vibrant research community around creative industries

    Part 1: Panel Presentations
    Featuring expert talks from:

    • Luis Aguiar (University of Zurich)
    • Olga Khessina (Gies College of Business)
    • Hong Luo (University of Toronto)
    • Sumeet Malik (University of Amsterdam)
    • Giacomo Negro (Emory University)
    • Hakan Özalp (University of Amsterdam)
    • Michele Piazzai (University of Edinburgh)
    • Yuan Shi (Cornell St. John's College)

    Part 2: Roundtable Feedback Session
Attendance for the second part of the PDW is limited to selected participants. Moderated by the panelists, this interactive session invites selected participants to present their early-stage research or working papers for feedback and discussion.
