    Dear colleagues,

    We are excited to announce our track on decolonization in the 58th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS-58).

    HICSS-57: January 7-10, 2025| Big Island, Hawaii

    Minitrack: Decolonizing Technology and Society

    Track: Information Technology, Social Justice, and Marginalized Contexts

    === Minitrack Co-Chairs ===

    Hameed Chughtai (Primary Contact - h.chughtai@lancaster.ac.uk), Lancaster University, UK

    Sherae Daniel, University of Cincinnati, USA

    Pitso Tsibolane, University of Cape Town, South Africa

    We invite scholars to consider this minitrack to be a platform to discuss decoloniality. Fundamental questions of interest are: What does it mean to decolonize information systems? How can we challenge present colonial legacies in a digital society and imagine decolonial futures? How can we theorize and develop decolonized technologies using decolonial approaches at the local and global levels? Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

    • Data justice and digital activism in decolonial contexts
    • Decoloniality, critical race issues and technology
    • Decolonizing gender and sex through technology
    • Decolonial ethics and Artificial Intelligence
    • Decolonial approaches to technology design
    • Data colonialism and new forms of coloniality
    • Application of Indigenous methods and theories (e.g., Kaupapa Māori)
    • Application of Indigenous philosophies (e.g., Ubuntu)
