We invite paper submissions to our mini-track ("The Bright and Dark Side of Social Media in Marginalized Contexts") at HICSS-60. Details about the track and mini-track may be found here:  Equitable and Inclusive Digital Systems in Society and Institutions | HICSS.

We welcome papers on all types of social media, investigating their positive and negative aspects in marginalized contexts. For our mini-track, we define marginalized contexts broadly as situations or contexts where certain individuals or groups are treated differently based on (among many others) their genders, political ideologies, belief systems, religion, sexual orientation, and physical or mental disabilities. We encourage the submission of empirical (qualitative or quantitative), theoretical, or position papers at all stages of development.

Over the past several years running this mini-track, we have developed an amazing community of scholars that span multiple disciplines with expertise in a variety of research methodologies. Come join our collaborative and supportive community as we work towards finding solutions to appropriating social media to the benefit of marginalized groups.

We have several fast-tracking publishing opportunities that are listed on the track's webpage - Equitable and Inclusive Digital Systems in Society and Institutions.

HICSS-60 will be held at the Hilton Waikoloa Village on the Big Island from January 5-8, 2027. It is an amazing place to enjoy the sunshine and engage in thoughtful academic discussions.

Please reach out to us if you have any questions.

    Thanks!

Tom Mattson (tmattson@richmond.edu), Qin Weng (Qin_Weng@baylor.edu) and Jie Ren (jren11@fordham.edu)
