JMS Paper Development Workshop: The Dark Sides of Digital Communication
11–12 May 2026 | Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (in person)
The rise of digital communication has transformed how individuals, organizations, and societies interact. At the same time, it has also generated new forms of harm, contestation, and unintended consequences. To stimulate research on these issues, we are organizing a PDW linked to the upcoming special issue in the Journal of Management Studies on "The Dark Sides of Digital Communication." (see full call for papers here: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/page/journal/14676486/homepage/call-for-papers. The PDW will take place 11–12 May 2026 at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University Rotterdam, bringing together authors and the full special issue editorial team for two days of developmental feedback and discussion.
The workshop is designed for scholars developing theory-driven manuscripts that engage with harmful, contested, or unintended consequences of digital communication in organizational and societal contexts. Participants will receive in-depth feedback from editors and senior scholars, with the explicit aim of helping authors strengthen their theoretical contribution, positioning, and research design ahead of submission to the special issue.
    What to Expect
The PDW combines several formats designed to maximize developmental value:
    • Plenary sessions on theorizing and publishing in JMS
    • Parallel development sessions with dedicated discussants
    • Paper roundtables focused on sharpening theory and contribution claims
    • Methodological insight sessions (qualitative, computational, configurational, and mixed methods)
    • Editorial clinics and a closing panel on positioning, revision strategies, and the special issue pathway
The editorial team for the special issue includes Madeleine Meurer, Felix Honecker, Dominic Chalmers, Joep Cornelissen, Yuliya Snihur, Emmanuelle Vaast, and Matthias Waldkirch, with Beatrice D'Ippolito joining as the JMS Editor for the workshop.
    Call for PDW Submissions
