UKAIS Annual Conference 2023
20th-21st April 2023
Information Systems for Creativity and Innovation
Call for papers
Innovation and creativity are essential to make the world a better place. This has resulted in an increased interest in exploring how information systems and information technologies (IS/IT) can help in enabling innovation and creativity in various contexts (Saldanha et al., 2020). For example, big data analytics can impact firms' incremental and radical process innovation capabilities (Mikalef and Krogstie, 2020). Smart City initiatives have been found to facilitate several outcomes, including improved collaboration and innovation (Bartelt et al., 2020). In addition, lightweight IT in onsite configuration, coupled from the infrastructure activities, allows for fast process innovation in high tech hospitals (Bygstad and Øvrelid, 2020). There is also an increasing interest in the role of online communities and online groups in promoting creativity and innovation (Kyriakou et al. 2022).
The increased interest in exploring how IS/IT can be utilised as one of the drivers of innovation and creativity has also created important new debates. For instance, how various IS strategies can affect firm, product and service innovation (Kitsios and Kamariotou, 2021). Further, the occurrences, and contexts in which IS/IT can be acting as drivers of innovation and creativity and where they may hinder them require further investigation. Furthermore, while technologies such as artificial intelligence and big data can enable automation by carrying out tasks similar to using human cognitive powers, there is a debate whether the technology can carry out tasks that require human emotional skills, such as empathy. While the focus on the use of IS/IT in innovation and creativity is rapidly increasing, IS scholars have an essential role in providing timely research insights that can help governments, society, business and educational institutions navigate this phenomenon.
The UKAIS 2022 international conference welcomes submissions that explore how IS/IT can be used in innovation and creativity. For example, submissions may consider the innovation and creativity in relation to the following
- Artificial Intelligence systems
- Augmented reality and virtual reality
- Virtual influencers and the metaverse
- Smart city and Internet of Things
- Blockchain technology
- Business Intelligence and Decision Support
- Business Process Management
- eBusiness and Competitive Strategy
- eGovernment Solutions to the Citizen
- Enterprise Systems
- Innovation and cultural Issues in IS
- Healthcare Information Systems
- Human-Computer Interaction
- Inter-Organisational Systems
- Innovative Applications of IS in Teaching
- IS Artefacts and IS Artefact Design
- IS Innovation, Adoption and Diffusion
- IS Governance and Sourcing
- Project Management and IS Development
- Creativity, innovation and social Media
- Service Engineering and Service Management
- Ubiquitous and Mobile Information Systems
- Big data in innovation and creativity
Teaching and Learning Track
In addition to the research papers, we welcome submissions in the Teaching and Learning Track. The teaching track covers all aspects of IS and education. IS are embedded throughout education, influencing pedagogies and creating opportunities for innovation in teaching practice. Furthermore, digital technologies both within and beyond the classroom are changing the ways in which students, educators and learning support teams such as librarians, communicate and interact in the learning environment. The Teaching and Learning track provides the opportunity to explore conceptual ideas, share practice and present empirical findings which address IS and digital technologies across teaching practice, pedagogies, or the education environment.
Papers in the Teaching and Learning Track may present research and applications of teaching and learning practices, teaching innovation practices, teaching cases or other aspects related to IS curriculum. Teaching cases should follow the format provided at https://www.ukais.org/teaching-and-learning/award-for-is-teaching-cases/ and other paper submissions may follow a standard paper format.
We are also seeking proposals for workshops. Workshops are interactive sessions that target specific audiences and promote knowledge transfer, skills development and collaborative learning among all participants and workshop facilitators. They are designed as opportunities for professional development. Please use the workshop proposal template for workshop proposal submissions.
Topics of Interest include but are not limited to:
- Creative uses of technology to support teaching and learning
- Approaches and pedagogies to drive student interest and success
- Teaching and learning research projects
- Innovative use of teaching techniques in the classroom
- Developments in IS curricula
- Teaching Cases for IS curriculum
